The University of Calicut is planning to put up a Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Artificial Intelligence (AI) on its indispensable campus at Tenhipalam in Malappuram district.
A proposal for the goal, supplied by Vice-Chancellor (V-C) P. Raveendran, used to be permitted on the university’s Syndicate assembly held on Saturday (March 1, 2026). Sources said that products and providers would be supplied for the centre within the contemporary building complex of the university. Mr. Raveendran suggested the assembly that a blue print for the centre would be prepared after consulting AI specialists in India and in a foreign nation. Highly licensed lecturers and excessive class infrastructure would be supplied. The centre would also increase the job possibilities of the college students, he added.
Meanwhile, the university has put up a Syndicate sub-committee for framing rules linked to world academic collaborations. The potentialities of twinning academic programmes (the keep the college students break up their path between a local institution and a foreign university, lastly getting the extent from the latter), alongside with joint and twin level programmes would possibly be explored. The function is to manipulate migration of faculty students to other countries and improve the university’s rankings by the Nationwide Institutional Rating Framework, and the Nationwide Evaluation and Accreditation Council.
