Pakistan on Thursday (April 9, 2026) beefed up security in the national capital as it prepares for excessive-stakes talks between the U.S. and Iran this weekend with apprehension, amid a warning from high Iranian leadership that Israeli strikes on Lebanon would render negotiations meaningless.

The U.S. and Iran agreed to a two-week conditional ceasefire on Wednesday (April 8, 2026) adopted by a face-to-face meeting in Islamabad to decide the diversities and convert the continuing truce into a lasting peace.

Hours sooner than the proposed talks, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian acknowledged that the Israeli attack on Lebanon blatantly violated the initial ceasefire and would render negotiations meaningless.
