Original Delhi: The Beating Retreat ceremony, marking the formal halt result of the 77th Republic Day celebrations, was once held on Thursday evening at Vijay Chowk within the national capital.
President Droupadi Murmu attended the ceremony, alongside with Vice-President CP Radhakrishnan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and various senior Union Ministers. The occasion, steeped in military custom, symbolises the conclusion of the Republic Day festivities that started with the broad parade on January 26.
In a post on X earlier on the unique time, Prime Minister Modi acknowledged the ceremony would showcase the strength of India’s rich military heritage, adding that the nation was once proud of its military who devote their lives to the defence of the nation.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh described the Beating Retreat as a “solemn and dignified custom” that brought Republic Day celebrations to a shut. He acknowledged the ceremony, location in opposition to the backdrop of Vijay Chowk, reflected the discipline, team spirit and timeless ethos of the Armed Forces, and stood as a image of national pleasure and military heritage.
Per Akashvani, this 365 days’s ceremony featured a total of 30 musical performances by bands from the Navy, Navy, Air Force and the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), offering spectators a night time of synchronised drills and stirring compositions.
As per custom, the ceremony concluded with the playing of the patriotic tune ‘Sare Jahan Se Achha’ by the Buglers, a moment that drew sustained applause and signalled the reliable slay of Republic Day celebrations.
A day earlier, the govt. announced the results for the Most attractive Marching Contingents and Most attractive Tableaux of the Republic Day Parade 2026. The Navy was once adjudged the Most attractive Marching Contingent among the many three Companies and products, whereas the Delhi Police topped the category for Central Armed Police Forces and auxiliary forces.
Among States and Union Territories, Maharashtra secured first location for its tableau themed ‘Ganeshotsav: A Image of Aatmanirbharta’, adopted by Jammu and Kashmir and Kerala. The Ministry of Culture won the award for the actual tableau among Central Ministries and Departments for its presentation titled ‘Vande Mataram – The Soul Instruct of a Nation’.
With the Beating Retreat ceremony at Vijay Chowk, the curtain came down on the 77th Republic Day celebrations, bringing to a shut three days of pageantry, patriotism and military splendour.
