Iran’s supreme chief Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on Sunday warned that any militia assault by the United States on Iran would house off a a lot wider regional war, as tensions rose following Washington’s heightened naval presence within the Center East.

Khamenei’s Warning

Relating to stories that Washington had sent more warships to the plot, Khamenei acknowledged the Iranian of us wouldn’t be troubled. “The Iranian nation shall no longer be apprehensive by these objects, the Iranian of us is doubtlessly no longer stirred by these threats,” he said.

“We are not the initiators and do not want to attack any country, but the Iranian nation will strike a strong blow against anyone who attacks and harasses them.”

The switch follows weeks of unrest in Iran and repeated warnings from Trump that Washington could perchance act if Tehran did no longer agree to a nuclear deal or end the killing of protesters.

Iranian officers echoed Khamenei’s message, warning of extreme consequences if Iran is attacked. Ebrahim Rezaei, spokesman for Iran’s parliamentary nationwide security commission, acknowledged: “Iran’s response to any depraved act by the enemy will be regrettable.”

Despite the sharp rhetoric, both Tehran and Washington have signalled they remain open to talks. Trump said on Saturday that Iran was “seriously talking” with the US and expressed hope for a negotiated deal that will per chance end Iran from shopping nuclear weapons.

Iran has acknowledged it’s ready for “just” negotiations that do not restrict its defensive capabilities. Regional countries, including Turkey, have called for de-escalation.

An Iranian official also denied earlier media reports that the Revolutionary Guards would conduct live-fire naval exercises in the Strait of Hormuz, saying the reports were incorrect.

Designates EU Armies ‘Terrorists’

Tensions also escalated between Iran and Europe after the European Union on Thursday designated Iran’s Revolutionary Guards as a terrorist organisation following Tehran’s violent crackdown on protests.

In retaliation, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf said on Sunday that Iran would designate EU armies as “terrorist groups” and take into memoir expelling EU militia attachés.

“By attempting to hit the Revolutionary Guards… the Europeans in actuality shot themselves within the foot,” Qalibaf told lawmakers, many of whom wore IRGC uniforms in a show of support.

The protests, which erupted over economic hardship and became the biggest challenge to Iran’s leadership since 1979, have largely subsided following a harsh crackdown. Official figures put the death toll at 3,117, while rights group HRANA says more than 6,700 people have been killed.
