Gangtok: An Military jawan died after a raft capsized within the Teesta river at some level of a practising exercise in Sikkim’s Pakyong district, police acknowledged on Tuesday.
The accident occurred at some level of an annual rafting practising programme for infantrymen on Monday when a raft struck a broken structure of a bridge and capsized within the river, and the jawan became once swept away, a senior officer acknowledged.
The iron bridge became once broken and fell into the river at some level of the 2023 floods.
An operation became once straight launched by the Military alongside with a bunch from Teesta Rescue Centre, he acknowledged.
The body became once recovered from the downstream of the river at Tar Khola beneath the Kalimpong district of West Bengal, and became once sent for post-mortem examinations, the officer acknowledged.
The deceased became once identified as Lance Naik Rajasekhar of the 191 Artillery Regiment, he acknowledged.
The rafting became once underway between Bardang and Rangpo Mining when the accident occurred, he acknowledged.
