Earlier today, Iran held a mass funeral for 165 schoolgirls and staff who were killed in the strike. The attack reportedly targeted the Shajare Tayyebeh elementary school in Minab, in southern Iran, as tensions and fighting across the region continue to escalate.
According to Iranian authorities, the strike on Saturday killed more than 100 people. The Iranian Red Crescent later reported the death toll had reached 108 before provincial officials announced on Sunday that the total had risen to 165, following the completion of search and debris removal operations.
In response to the attack, an Israeli military spokesperson on Sunday had said the country was not aware of any US or Israeli strike on the school and stressed that its operations are carried out with “extreme accuracy”.
“At this level no longer responsive to an Israeli or an American strike there… We’re working in an especially correct manner,” military spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Nadav Shoshani has stated.
The US military, through CENTCOM, told The New York Times that it was “aware of reports concerning civilian harm resulting from ongoing military operations” and that it is a long way taking the stories significantly while persevering with to “steal all precautions out there to minimise the risk of unintended harm.”
