The Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said that the United States (US) tariffs have “no affect on customs responsibility overhaul.”

The Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said that the United States (US) tariffs have “no affect on customs responsibility overhaul.”

“Custom duty overhauling exercise has been going on for the last two years. The US matter has had ‘no influence’ on Budget,” Sitharaman instructed journalists within the national capital within the context of the proposals announced within the Union Budget 2026-27 for the deduction in Customs and Central Excise for definite merchandise. 

The Union Minister said, “We did now not manufacture any evaluation on the affect of US tariffs.”

The FM in her budget speech the day previous to this, had proposed deductions in Customs and Central Excise for definite merchandise, which she said goals to further simplify the tariff structure, help home manufacturing, promote export competitiveness, and correct inversion in responsibility.
